Copyright in Canada... time to wake up
Posted June 14th, 2008 by drewzIf you've been following the bill Prentice has been trying to cram through the government, read it closely and evaluate how it actually meets your needs versus those of the entertainment industry. If you haven't heard of the american DMCA laws, it's essentially the US derivative of what is trying to be passed. And frankly, as both a computer scientist (of who the DMCA has jailed several, and left many other companies in the dust) and an indie musician (of whom the DMCA allows the RIAA to ignore and then freely sue music users who try to rightfully use the music they have purchased on the medium they want), this is a deep concern.
This bill is bad news. It looks worse than the american DMCA. Prentice is pretty much bending over for the American entertainment industry rather than thinking first about his constituents, the canadian industry and canadian artists. The DMCA has been seen as a massive failure whose main work has been to further line the pockets of a deeply troubled industry. We don't need this in Canada, and we've been fine without it.
Read up on your digital rights now, and send your MP a letter to protest this. Or don't look at me when you suddenly get fined ridiculous amounts of money for doing what you've luxuriously enjoyed for the past few years. Fines which will go straight to the big companies and leave all the indie canadian bands scratching for leftovers from a jaded consumer.
here's the link to the letter generator, It's already done for you, just click away and be proactive at Copyright for Canadians.

Props to all of you who have ventured out into the independent side of the music industry.
New Music West was amazing. And the Cellar provided an amazing venue with GREAT staff! Danielle Duvall with the amazing pipes! and beautiful demure and of course the beloved keyboard...oh the keyboard....=) Italian Edition. Thanks for being such a GREAT band! I was totally blown away by your charisma and amazing stage presence. Thanks for the trade! Raggedy Angry and One Eleven Archer! All of you guys, serious class. We were honored to play on the bill with all of you.
Hope to see you all around soon! Maybe share the stage again.

We're in the Province?
Posted May 12th, 2008 by drewzi think we managed to squeeze onto the front page of tomorrow's entertainment section of The Province. And we did this without having to pose nonchalantly in the background of a real news event photo, trying to look cool.
I'll try to get a copy to upload here, if we're allowed. I bet they pick the photo where I don't fit in...
Edit: And here it is. Cheers to Tom! NMW is on!

Goodbye Silence Redux
Posted May 4th, 2008 by drewzThis was the first song we ever wrote as a band out in Vancouver. It's been three 3 different rewrites, and I think we finally have something we actually like. This is live from the Railway Club, and is a nice preview to the upcoming New Music West gig (May 14th 9pm!), Enjoy!

Running the race!
Posted April 29th, 2008 by drewzWe're all taking turns running 4K laps for the Easter Seals 24 Hour relay for a team at work. Should be a blast, and it's for a great cause so if you got a sec, drop by our fundraising site and help us out. We very much appreciate it! And if you're participating, we'll probably be up all night at the campsite with a guitar annoying neighbouring groups.

Checklist for electrocuting yourself
Posted April 7th, 2008 by drewzWe start this blog with a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT. RADIOHEAD IS COMING TO TOWN! That is all.
Steps to electrocuting yourself, and any animals that happen to be around you:
1. Buy an awesome but notoriously super-heated guitar amp. Check
2. Break the fan inside of it. Check
3. Disconnect the power. Check
4. Buy 3 separate fans that aren't the right size. Check.
5. Go to Main electronics, solve the physics problems as directed by the old-school owner. Try to remember formula for wattage, and how to drop 24v to 12v. Check. kind-of.
6. Remember why you didn't take physics in university. Check. And double check.
7. Splice the red and black wires. Connect to resisters. Connect to fan. Connect to power source. Check.
8. Turn power on. Check
9. Forget to insulate wires. Check.
10. Turn off smoke alarm. Check.
Fini. As an aside, i have a working guitar amp that is for sale.

This is for the emo's
Posted March 28th, 2008 by drewzAccording to Digg and Wired, there were some anti-emo riots in Mexico today. Well, in support of my emo brothers (though I may be only closet-emo... heck.. i'm probably not even closet-half-emo) we better put out a cover of a tear-jerker. So this week's cover is Evanescence's My Immortal. Ellah going solo this time. Check it out at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Os2B40_XEug. Same deal as always, leave a comment and rank us!

What's NEW with the Rev Squad??!!!
Posted March 23rd, 2008 by elaineSOOOOO MUCH!! Oh my, it seems there is just so much going on right now, and it is getting so exciting! Getting all of us really pumped up and totally ready to rock out!
We have a show on April 1st at the railway, we are playing with some AMAZING bands! Beehive and Conor McGuire. Beehive is an indie/electronia/rock band from Seattle who is making a trip to vancouver to play at the railway with us, and talented Connor McGuire from Burnaby opening. It is gonna be an amazing show so come on out and enjoy yourselves with some good friends, GREAT music and an amazing time!
Next news is our youtube videos. So, some may be wondering why we are now doing covers when we are an indie band who really only plays our own stuff especially live. Well.. the answer is.. we really love music, we had a weekend, fooling around, sang some songs of artists we really respect, and just had a ton of fun doing it so we recorded it and put it up so you could listen too. Music is to be enjoyed.
We will be posting up videos of our LIVE gigs as well. We'll be filming our railway and New West performance.
So! That brings me to the CRAZY news.
NEW MUSIC WEST!! We are all totally stoked for this festival!!!
The LARGEST music festival in north america, record number of bands applying this year and we got on the bill! ROOOCCCKK OOONNN!!!
We are all so excited and so honored to play this amazing festival!
We will be at the Cellar on May 14 with 3 other amazing bands! It is going to be an AMAZING SHOW! Time to bring out the fireworks! ahha..
So. this may be the year of the Squad.
Who knows. We are working hard, but having fun while doing it.
Thanks to everyone who has shown so much support so far. Thanks for stickin' by us!
Those in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. You know who you are!
Cheers!
See you soon!

The Railway Club: April Fool's
Posted March 2nd, 2008 by drewz
We've been off gigs for a few months, but we're back in action with probably the most talented line-up we've put together in awhile. We're happy to present an April Fool's gig with Connor McGuire, an alt-folk/indie singer/songwriter and Beehive, a rocktronica indie group from Seattle coming up to show us how it's done. Check them out, I really like their stuff. It's exciting to play with other acts that have a wicked sound to them.
Show kicks off around 9/9:30 with Connor. Cover is $8, and the awesome Railway Club atmosphere is included.

Rev on the Tube..
Posted February 13th, 2008 by elaineHey everyone!
So. The doors have been opened and now the world will see into the 'true' rev squad behind the scenes. Oh dear... is this a good move.. sure. haha..
Between gigs, glammed out photoshoots there is... yes.. the randomness and hilarity that makes our band. From being trapped in elevators, riding childrens' cars, Petey dropping his sticks immediately followed by Jax and Toby chasing him with pinch ready fingers, contests of who can jump the highest onto a banister.. sardines in old church buildings... we hope you will get to know us more through these little video clips.
So. We are excited to let you all in on this part of our band that not too many people get to see. Maybe we'll throw in a few covers too.
Check us out weekly on youtube!
Rock ON!
Rev Squad.
